Sustainable Buildings which Lend Lease is involved in Asia
Parkway and PoMo
- As 80% of the buildings that will exist in 2030 are already standing today, there's a need to address the problem of greenhouse gas emissions and energy efficiency in existing building stock which is even more challenging with strata-ownership structures.
- Lend Lease has begun its journey to Green Refurbishment. In 2010, two assets co-owned and managed by Lend Lease, PoMo (wholesale fund) and Parkway Parade (strata-titled), were both awarded BCA Green Mark Platinum Award (non-residential existing buildings category), the highest sustainability recognition in Singapore.
- They are one of the first mixed-use buildings in Singapore to have achieved this accolade with a notable mention for the Parkway Parade management team who also overcame the “strata-titled” ownership mindset challenges as part of achieving this Sustainability journey milestone for Lend Lease in Asia.
313@somerset
- 313@somerset, located in Singapore's busiest shopping precinct on Orchard Road, is a shining example of a project that has benefitted enormously from an integrated approach to business. The centre has received the Green Mark Platinum Award from Building Construction Authority of Singapore and is the only shopping centre on Orchard Road, Singapore's premium retail belt, to receive such an award in 2008. Lend Lease led all phases of the project from site acquisition, development, design, project management and construction, leasing, to asset and property management services.
- Lend Lease is the first to implement Green Lease in Singapore, at 313@somerset. We work closely with our retailers and provide tools and recommend initiatives to bring about savings through environment sustainable initiatives adopted. This closely ties in with one of Lend Lease’s Global Aspirations which is to minimise net carbon, water and waste in all our business operations.
- Lend Lease has received the accreditation of Approved Training Organisation (ATO) status by the Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA). This is the first time that globally, Lend Lease has received the status of an ‘Accredited/ Approved Training Organisation’ and it is also a first for a retail mall in Singapore. The 313@somerset Training & Career Centre aims to provide free retail Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) training and skills upgrading so that all retailers employees can deliver superior service standards upon opening of the centre. The 313@somerset Training & Career Centre will offer accredited competency based training programs that are designed to provide skills specific to retailing, with the aim to set a new benchmark for the retail service standards in Singapore.
- Sustainability tours are also available to the public, schools, industry players so as to share our knowledge on our experience of the sustainability journey at 313@somerset, the sustainable features adopted by the mall as well as the sustainable practices in the operations of 313@somerset.
These initiatives are our long term commitment towards sustainable outcomes and ensuring accountability towards what we take, what we create and most importantly, what we leave behind.

How Lend Lease supports sustainability causes in Asia:-
Lend Lease has always been actively involved in collaborations with partners, stakeholders and government bodies in achieving common goals towards sustainability. Some examples of activities in Asia include:
Singapore Packaging Agreement is one of the government initiatives which Lend Lease has volunteered to be one of the “Commercial Building Owners and Managers Sector” group signatories
- Singapore local government body National Environment Agency and private organisations from different industries are collaboratively addressing wastage issues in packaging starting from its design and material source stages to encourage the adoption of the 3R principles Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
- The Agreement is voluntary so as to provide flexibility for the industries to adopt cost-effective solutions to reduce waste and provide a platform and structure for industries to collaborate with the government to reduce packaging waste over a 5-year period.
International Panel of Experts- Maria Atkinson’s involvement in sustainability advocacy
- Maria Atkinson, Group Head of Sustainability in Lend Lease; was invited to be a member (2007-2009: a two year participation) of Singapore Building and Construction Authority’s International Panel of Experts (IPE) on sustainability for Singapore’s built environment. The panel of experts which comprises of government representatives and global/local experts share their knowledge and experience towards greening the built environment to fulfil its national vision in the Green Building Masterplan.
- Part of the blueprint focused on improving Singapore’s sustainability, a target was set for 80% of all existing buildings to achieve the basic Green Mark standard by 2030. Lend Lease supports this initiative and will continue to influence this outcome through its integrated property value chain involvement and capabilities.
Green Building Councils support
- Lend Lease shows local support by being a member of various Green Building Councils in Asia of which, it is the corporate founding member of Malaysia Green Building Confederation and Singapore Green Building Council.
- Lend Lease aspires to support initiatives of all Green Building Councils of the countries that we operate in.
